Year 5

Croeso i Blwyddyn 5

Hello parents, guardians, friends and family, welcome to Year 5, croeso i blwyddyn 5.

I'm Mrs Knaggs, currently teaching Yr5 with the support of Miss Mordecai and Mrs Diamond.

On this page we intend to keep you up to date with class news, events, learning and homework, as well as providing links to websites and resources to support learning.  Although the door is always open at the end of the school day for any other concerns and questions.

Spring Topics

Dragons and EPIC Wales

This term we will be learning through the topic of dragons.  The children have thought of some interesting activities they would like to try out, such as dragon treasure hunts, clay models, story writing and designing dragons.  Our class text is 'How to Train Your Dragon' by Cressida Cowell.

The whole school will be studying EPIC Wales as a rich task.  In Year 5, we will be looking at the beautiful scenery of Wales and how we can keep our 'epic' environment healthy and clean through recycling, particularly focusing on the current plastic problem in our seas.  The whole juniors will be visiting Rhossili on Monday 29th January to start off this project. Please dress up warm and with waterproofs!

In Science, we are looking at materials and their properties.  The children have already completed lots of work in this area.  We have had a bonfire and roasted marshmallows and made toast - helping us learn about solids, liquids, gases and non-reversible changes.   We will also be investigating to find the best waterproof materials and trying to clean up oil slicks.

Class Timetable

19/1/18- This week can you write a short story with only 500 words?  Chris Evan's Radio 2 show has launched a competition encouraging children to write their own stories.  It can be about anything you want, let your imaginations run wild!  It would be brilliant have some Talycopa entries.  For more information and to submit your story visit the Radio2 website and search 500 words.
